Think Apple’s Got Your Back? 600K Trojan Virus Attacks Say Otherwise

As a part-time Mac user myself, I don’t feel that Apple has my back. Apple doesn’t have a good track record of patching vulnerabilities promptly, with it taking the company more than three years to fix one hole. And because of that I feel the need to install third-party antivirus software onto my Macs.

Don’t believe the hype that Mac’s are invulnerable to malware, even Apple has now toned down this rhetoric over the years and now uses tamer phrases such as ‘more resistant to attack.‘ Get protected, and then stop worrying about malware.

Virus Removal Recommendations

Virus Removal Recommendations:

1. Download Malwarebytes from www.downloads.com (This is a Free Program)
2. Install the program and run the updates.  Then perform a simple scan to begin.
   1. You don’t need the full version, just use it for scanning purposes only!
   2. Next if you are still experiencing issues download Hitman Pro 3.5 (http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro).  Run this program (gives you a 30-day free trial) uninstall when finished unless you want to continue the service.
   3. Also Norton Antivirus will give you a free 15-day trial. http://us.norton.com/downloads/trialsoftware/offer.jsp?pvid=nav2011
   4. Or there is Norton Power Eraser (Free) that can help remove a Virus. www.downloads.com

If the Malwarebytes will not install or update, reboot your computer in “Safe-Mode with Networking” and then run the program.  Again make sure that it is fully updated, and then run the scanner. If you need instructions booting in Safe Mode, Google: “Booting up in Safe Mode with Networking” or you can follow this link:

If you do not have an antivirus program I would first recommend Norton Antivirus 2011 (or most up to date) (Norton will give you a FREE 15-day Trial).  I don’t recommend Norton 360, I have found many issues with the program but the regular Antivirus is excellent.  It is a yearly subscription. There are also free options that work, but not as well as Norton:

Also other considerations:

-If you don’t have Windows Defender (Free Microsoft Product)  I would recommend downloading it.  It will help block Trojans and viruses.  I would also recommend keeping up with your Windows Updates.
